My philosophy of leadership is to lead by teaching. I have a long lineage of educators in my family and when I stepped into the fire service I was amazed at the amount of formal and informal education that takes place daily. When I take on a leadership position my goal is to empower those that I am leading, so they develop ownership in what they are doing. I have found that by teaching something, one gains an unbelievable understanding of the subject matter. I believe that delegating responsibilities and trusting them to complete tasks is an important aspect of my philosophy. Additionally I want to constantly display respect, integrity and honesty at all times both on and off shift in order to be a positive and tireless role model.
