Awards and Scholarships

The Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation (YLD) proudly announces the inauguration of the Alan Brunacini Special Projects Program for 2024. This prestigious program will award up to $10,000 to eligible individuals and organizations within the fire and emergency services community to support projects that advance leadership development and training.

The application period for the Alan Brunacini Special Projects Program is now open and will close on October 30, 2024.

The intention of the Chief Yvorra award or scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an individual, organization, or group that has the potential to improve leadership development in the fire and emergency services through training and education. To that end, individuals may apply for scholarships or groups may apply for funding for a leadership-related project. The selection criteria include:

  • Potential for the applicant to have a positive impact on the future of his or her organization and the emergency services community, especially as it relates to developing future leaders.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to professionalism and becoming a good leader in emergency services through training and education.
  • Currently serving as an active duty civilian or military career or volunteer firefighter or emergency management officer.
  • Analysis of three letters of recommendation submitted with the application. Consideration will be given to any individual with a level of experience ranging from firefighter, company officer, chief officer, or emergency management officer.

The intention of the Donald Sellers Award is to provide financial assistance to members of the Emergency Medical Response community through scholarships to individuals who desire to further their training and education. The selection criteria include:

  • Potential for the applicant to have a positive impact on the future of his or her organization and the emergency services community, especially as it relates to improving emergency medical services.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to improving the emergency medical services in the applicant’s community through training and education.
  • Currently serving as an active duty civilian or military career or volunteer Emergency Medical Technician or emergency medical officer.
  • Analysis of three letters of recommendation submitted with the application. Consideration will be given to any individual with a level of experience ranging from Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or emergency medical officer.

The intention of the Chief Eversole award or scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an individual or organization that desires to pursue training or educational activities related to hazardous materials or Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) response. The selection criteria include:

  • Individuals or groups applying for the Chief Eversole scholarship should be a member of a hazardous materials response team, or be involved in a civilian career or volunteer or U.S. military hazardous materials/WMD response mission.
  • The type of the proposed training or educational activity that may be eligible covers a broad spectrum of possibilities, but the award and scholarship committee will make the award based on the declared need and the ability to further enhance a person or organization’s ability to respond to hazardous materials or WMD incident.
  • Ability to take lessons learned and apply them department-wide or regionally.
  • Group project ideas that may result in a broad impact across the hazardous materials response community are encouraged.
  • Analysis of three letters of recommendation submitted with the application.

Consideration will be given to any individual with a level of experience ranging from Hazardous Materials Technician to HazMat/WMD Officers.

Chief G. Crawford Wiestling Scholarship Award

The Chief G. Crawford Wiestling Scholarship Award is given in honor of the 32 years of volunteer service Chief Wiestling rendered to the Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation as Chairman of the Scholarship and Awards Committee. One or more awards may be made to qualified applicants in order to recognize an individual who made a difference through their contributions to firefighter safety and health. The name of the person(s) to be recognized is determined by the Board of Directors and the selection of the awardee(s) is made by the Scholarship and Awards Committee.
