The Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation (YLD) is proud to highlight the continued success of the Danville (IL) Fire Department, the first recipient of a full Chief Alan Brunacini Special Projects Award in 2024.

The award supported the implementation of Blue Card Training for department personnel, an initiative led by Fire Captain and Training Officer Ryan Allison. This effort focused on strengthening command competency and improving operational performance across the organization.

The Danville Fire Department is a career, full-time agency serving approximately 29,000 residents. With about 50 personnel operating from three stations, the department provides fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue services, and hazardous materials support. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Aaron Marcott, the department emphasizes training, professionalism, and community risk reduction through prevention, inspections, and public education.

As part of the award’s requirements, recipients are expected to share their work with the broader public safety community. Captain Allison successfully met that objective by documenting the department’s approach in a Fire Engineering article titled “Building Strong Training on a Small Budget.”

The article highlights practical strategies and innovative thinking to help departments secure meaningful training despite limited resources, an approach that aligns directly with the mission of the Brunacini Special Projects Program.

Introduced in 2024, the Chief Alan Brunacini Special Projects Program supports initiatives that advance training, education, and leadership development within the fire and emergency services. A key component of the program is ensuring that project outcomes are shared with the profession on a not-for-profit basis.

The Danville Fire Department’s work clearly demonstrates the intent of this program; delivering measurable results and sharing those lessons to benefit the broader fire service.
