The Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation (YLD) proudly announces Lieutenant Michael Nasti as a recipient of a 2023 YLD scholarship. With 17 years of dedicated service as a Firefighter/Medic Lieutenant, Nasti exemplifies outstanding leadership and commitment to excellence in emergency services.
Nasti’s selection for the YLD scholarship reflects his exceptional leadership philosophy and relentless pursuit of educational and leadership endeavors. Throughout his distinguished 8-year tenure as a Lieutenant in the Emergency Operations Command, Nasti has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the safety, professionalism, and well-being of his fellow team members. His proactive approach to professional development, including participation in advanced training programs and attainment of certifications, underscores his commitment to enhancing firefighting and emergency response capabilities.
Commenting on his achievement, Lieutenant Nasti stated, “I am deeply honored to receive the Chief James G. Yvorra Award for Fire and Emergency Services Responders. The scholarship will help me develop my leadership skills by assisting me in obtaining a bachelor’s degree. I think through formal education, it will help me sharpen my abilities to critically think and communicate in writing and communicate verbally as well.”
The Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation selected Lieutenant Nasti as one of the 2023 scholarship recipients for his outstanding contributions and potential to advance leadership development in the fire and emergency services sector through training and education. Established in honor of Volunteer Deputy Fire Chief James G. Yvorra, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in 1988, the YLD aims to support individuals, organizations, or groups dedicated to improving leadership within the fire and emergency services.
Describing the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department (PGFD) as the sixteenth busiest fire department in the United States and the largest in the State of Maryland, Lieutenant Nasti highlighted the department’s extensive service area encompassing diverse communities ranging from urban to rural settings. With over 140,000 calls for service annually, the department diligently protects nearly a million residents, offering a comprehensive range of services including fire suppression, basic and advanced life support, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, forensic investigation, and specialized team operations. The YLD namesake, James G. Yvorra, was a founding member of the PGFD Hazardous Materials Response Team and a Deputy Fire Chief at the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, PGFD Station 14.
